Prehnite is a calcium aluminium silicate mineral. It is usually a translucent light green colour, sometimes with tinges of white and yellow. It’s often found where Zeolites are found. Named in 1788 by Abraham Gottlieb Werner in honour of the Dutch Colonel, Hendrik von/van Prehn. Von Prehn, then governor of the Cape of Good Hope, first discovered the stone in 1774.

Prehnite forms as stalactite or botryoidal, usually curved, with just the crests of small crystals showing on the surface. Good specimens appear as rounded balls made of blades of translucent crystals.
